The picture we get in our minds when thinking of an “outdoor, adventurous person” is mostly a butch, filthy, sweaty, tired, maybe even frustrated person who is struggling. But looking on the other side of the rainbow, there is a person who stands on top of a mountain, not minding sweat or dirt, facing their fears and overcoming their limits. These people would rather set new limits, than look up towards their unreachable dreams. I’d like to call them “go-getters”; people who are not afraid to get down and dirty; people who tend to get what they want and will move or conquer any rock that is in their way.

Sounds quite far-fetched it may seem, but there may be elements of truth behind these words. I think many people are in my category – the “one day I will” or “someday I will” people. We set our goals for tomorrow, instead of setting, grasping and achieving those goals. We are the people who like to cancel and postpone, instead of taking it on!

Well, I think it is time we take off our panties and put on some blue suede shoes so that however rocky the road might be, we will stay confident with a sense of greediness, heading towards our goal – eyes on the prize!

Think of those people who you refer to as outdoor or adventurous folks – what are they afraid of? Take for instance a rock-climber. He can be facing a mountain, ten thousand times bigger than him, and still he won’t be afraid to conquer it. Come what may, he will get over it – not take the long road around it, no. With a smile on his face, he will reach the top of that mountain and feel like he has achieved something amazing; that he can face anything and anyone.

Like the song “I wish I was a punk-rocker”, I wish I was a rock-climber! Don’t set goals for tomorrow, for tomorrow brings its own rocky mountains!

It’s ALMOST Christmas and people are already going crazy.  I mean the shops have started putting up décor for the festive season a few MONTHS ago… 

This is my question:  Are we trying to hard to keep the roots of Christmas and to keep the mood there or is marketing succeeding in making Christmas more commercial meaning a bigger bonus and a happy, happy new year for them?

I had an interesting conversation with a friend the other day.  We were walking through a very popular mall on our way to the food court and I noticed the beautiful decoration that had been put up.  Being a guy he simply shrugged it off as being a Christmas thing.  He went on to say that Christmas has becoming something that is celebrated by younger kids and as you get older the entire thing looses the magic and it becomes a reason to party and to spend way to much money on clothes that will only be full of stains and probably won’t fit after lunch.

It got me thinking, those of us who are fortunate enough to have had Christmas and know what I meant in the above paragraph will probably agree with my friend and not think twice about this Christmas unless when it comes to what you want.  The thing is that there are people out there that is not that lucky and that would give anything to know what we are talking about. 

I was fortunate enough to have volunteered for several months, at an organisation that helps the homeless and poverty stricken communities.  My eyes were opened to the way that we take things for granted and in some cases overly appreciate certain things when they are completely unnecessary to get by.  How shocked I was to know that there are people that cannot remember what is like to have a sit down meal with a family.

I have to admit that I appreciated our sit down meals at home for a little while, but since I have left the organisation I have kinda fallen back into my spoiled ways. 

I think that if we want to get the feeling of Christmas back, we are gonna have to start seeing things through the eyes of others and remember the reason that God sent his son to us in the first place.  By expecting things to be a certain way we are going against the way that things were meant to be.

Let this Christmas be about some else, if that don’t work… Get a little Captain in you!

I know that music is made for all of us to listen to, but how many of us listen to the music?  If the ‘beat’ is good can you honestly say that the ‘words’ or the ‘message’ of the song has reached you?  I have always thought about it and it kinda boggles the mind.  

Something else that I think about rather often is… What makes a good song?  I had a look at the music on my mp3 player the other day and most of the tracks I can honestly say I would listen to anytime, but there is a select few that I just can’t remember loading or ever liking. 

Is music one of the social things that we like coz we heard it loud at a party or club a while back and we think that it is best or do we make our minds because something in the sing speaks to us?

I have recently started listening to a more blues/jazz vibe and in this genre it is important to listen to the ‘message’ because the melody doesn’t do justice to what the artist intended of that I am sure (Corinne Baley Rae and James Morrison comes HIGHLY recommended)  

Rap is another genre that the lyric is important, the problem is the message is the same for the majority of the songs… I got money, girls want me, I was shot (by a water pistol or bb gun) so I am unstoppable.  In my honest opinion I think that for rap there are a few artists that actually use what they have to add to the world.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think that music should be depro, but I do think that at least we get something from the song otherwise it is just like  TV… making fools out of all of us.  Please note: Weird gold teeth or nasty and unsanitary.  Not Ayoba!

If music should feed the soul then make sure that Jamie Oliver is cooking… so that it is good all the time.

From personal experience, I have learned that a 4×4 ALWAYS has the ability to be better, and of course, our men has to be the ones improving the Landy.

No offence to Land Rover owners or drivers – I also love the outdoors and driving 4×4 routes, but there has to be a line, and we as women have to draw that!

From spending hours and weekends on fixing the engine, or building a new roof rack, to canceling dates that YOU found as important.

I think the problem does not lie in the 4×4, but rather in men and priorities. If they know what’s best for them, they will put their female above the mechanical one.

It’s a fact: boys love their toys; but women are more than that! We are the caretakers, the fighters, the supporters, the listeners, the lovers; the ultimate 4×4 experience!

You see, a 4×4 trail, as well as the vehicle, is unpredictable – but men always complain about women being unpredictable, don’t they? So why don’t take the time to understand us, rather than exploring the one in the garage?

At the end, we are left to defend ourselves, in a never-ending war of women vs. 4×4…

Don’t get me wrong, I am many times astound at the skill that the players have with the ball, and they sure know how they feel when a goal is scored.  I always compare length the banter of the players after a goal to that of injury time during a rugby match.

The soccer players may have more money and more girls than the average rugby player, but then again so does the average actor. 

It’s not that I hate soccer, it’s just that the guys that play soccer remind me of my primary school netball team, ever five minutes there need to e a break because ‘she stepped on my  foot… earlier.’  AG nee sies manne!  You are now in the big world, and just FYI the ref is not there to stand in for your mom.  Take a bit of advice from Bakkies Botha and sort things out before the end of the game leaving all the frustrations of the game on the field, leaving a huge celebration for all to enjoy.

I don’t even want to get started on the fashions, what ever happened to doing something simply because you love it?  If you want to use a sport to start your modeling career then I suggest you start wrestling.  Those guys may get hurt but most of it is acting… you will fit right in. 

Now that that is off my chest I feel so much better.  Please feel free to argue if you feel differently, this is just my opinion.

Yes, it is important for your health to stay fit, but where do you draw the line? I know people who leaves the flat at 7am, they go for a jog then, then go to work, then after work they go to the gym for an hour or two, and to top off the day, they go for dance-lessons. I mean come on! Shouldn’t you be able to go home, make yourself a nice meal, sit down and relax in front of the TV or even with a book. Is it really worth it to have a flat if you only sleep there from 10pm to 6am?

The point is that all of us take care of our bodies in our special way… My way is sitting in front of the TV with a glass of wine before going to sleep. It is a way to forget about all your worries and stress and just relax. That is why the government pays for Leisure Facilities isn’t is? To use it! If they wanted us to be on the run all the time, they would have probably spent their money on replacing parks, playgrounds, sportgrounds, etc. with gyms…

I am not picking on people who gym, I would also like to join one. But if you can’t make time for yourself, you need to think about your priorities. Life is only so long, and before you know it, you are dying of trying to stay fit.

So, is it really worth it? When you lay on your deathbed, are you going to think about going to the gym? Or are you going to regret the time you wasted that you could have spent with yourself, or with loved ones.

Think before you die trying to stay fit!
